Sinden & Rusko @ Hard in Philly (photos, video)

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing sets from Sinden and Rusko, a couple of my favorite DJs/producers from the UK scene, before a packed house at one of the biggest live music venues in Philly last night (aside from like.. stadiums!). I’ve booked shows for both these guys in the past at much smaller spots, it’s really wonderful to have watched their audience grow and grow to the point that it’s not only feasible, but successful for them to play at the same spot which hosts Deadmau5 and Tiësto. While they were both opening for Crystal Castles, it did seem like a good chunk of people were there to hear bass music..

I shot the last bit of Rusko’s set from the side of the stage and the audio isn’t actually blown to hell:

Bass Safari II & Rad Summer Sundays

Well first of all, thanks to everyone who came out to Rad Decent this past Saturday at The M-Room! And of course thanks to all the performers who did a completely bangup job. The spot we used for this party is going to be the home to a bunch of facemelting events-to-come, including a few this month..

First up this weekend is the triumphant return of Rad Summer Sundays! I’m really pumped to be throwing this party again, especially in my Nolibs stomping ground. This party’s all about blending fun, interesting and exciting sounds together—be they underground, mainstream, or throwback. I know that’s all very vague, guess I’m not feeling oh so eloquent at the moment.. but I’ll tell you this; most people brave enough to venture into a) Old City on a Sunday and b) The Khyber on a Sunday did have a pretty good time at the previous incarnation of this party (way back in the Spring and early Summer of 2010), it’s just now you can experience that same crazy jumpoffedness without really any of the downsides.

And then in a couple weeks it’s the Second Annual Subdivision Bass Safari! Our first one took place on the night of 2009’s Mad Decent Block Party and was kind of nuts. Brick Bandits and Subdivision fam all played stellar sets, then Starkey wrecked shop with Diplo on the mic and Toadally Krossed Out veritably cleaned up afterward. It was a really, really fun night.

This year’s party features the first North American performance for Night Slugs ghetto bass phenom Girl Unit! And we’ve got sets from Street Bass progenitors Seclusiasis (Dev79, Sonkin, and Plastic Little’s Si Young), the full Philly Subdivision roster (me Flufftronix, Rx, Lady Prowl, and Subdiv newcomer Battleaxe Baby), and a live set from Sgt. Sass, including some new heavy bass jams produced by the aforementioned Rx!

Announcing RAD DECENT!

So I’ve been quietly putting this party together for quite some time and am really excited to finally tell you all about it!

It’s called RAD DECENT, and is going down at The M Room on July 31st, starting right after the Mad Decent Block Party ends. Slated to perform are:

Ninjasonik are known not only for their raucous live shows but also for their bangers “Somebody’s Gonna Get Pregnant”, “Art School Girls”, and their collabs with Matt & Kim & The Deathset.

It’s Tuesday afternoon and I’ve just now fully recovered from Mishka’s wild and wacky July 4th party. As I don’t drink, this says a lot. Granted the oppressive sunlight may may have had something to do with it, but the music was something else too! My favorite performances were from The Deathset, Ninjasonik and Dirty South Joe/Tameil/Tim Dolla of Brick Bandits. Didn’t get to stay the whole time (missed Tittsworth and Udachi, d’oh!) but all the bands and DJs I did see were top notch, plenty of good people knockin about and all sorts of good times to be had.

VAMPIRE WEEKDAY

Whilst spending an afternoon innocently browsing the ancient Mayan archives in the secret basement of PYT, I perchanced upon an upcoming special and rare event: The VAMPIRE WEEKDAY. According to myth, a time when creatures of the night were free to mingle about during sunlight hours. While at first villagers hid in fear, they eventually learned it was in fact a time of armistice and celebration where the forces of good and evil put aside their differences to collectively partake in bacchanalia, bask in sunlight, and consume grilled foodstuffs.

On rare occasions such as THIS MONDAY when the sun, moon, and stars align in the proper pattern, Vampire Weekday is still celebrated. The only caveat nightwalkers need heed is the presence of a glowy sheen to their skin, not unlike the dainty vampires of Twilight lore.

Riverside x Twista x DC!

Dang, this is pretty awesome. All sorts of rad DC peoples (definitely saw Gavin Holland, Jackie O and Tittsworth) dancing with Rye Rye to the Sidney Samson classic with Chicago rapper Twista over top. A bit of a mad lib concoction but hey, nothing wrong with that:

And as it comes pretty close in theme to the mishmash going above, I’m giving away my Riveside bmore edit along with this. Made about a year ago, it’s been fun to play from time to time.. and I’m not really doing anything with it any more so, hey, free track!
