This was posted by Tommy Up on a couple boards; thought I’d repost it along with the song in reference..
Sabina was an otherworldly, magical little sprite. She & my girlfriend would take our dog to Liberty Lands and spend hours playing in the nature there that Sabina loved so much. They would play with ladybugs and pick up ants and put them somewhere else.
Sabina used to be really upset when she saw the changes at Liberty Lands last year. I kept telling my girl to tell her that they were improving the park and building a stage and making it even prettier, but she was worried they were building condos there. It was her little conspiracy theory. When she saw how incredible it looked after, with the new trees and grass and stage, she was delighted. I feel like it’s fate that the changes were made in time for her memorial.
Thank you to Matt & Larry at NLNA, Nina at NLBA, Owen at El Camino and the whole community for using their unique gifts and talents and pulling together in this time where we all need each other. It’s a f*ucking magical thing.
Sabina’s mom & all of her friends did not want to remember this 20 year old girl’s life with a boring old funeral service. She would have hated it. This is what she would have loved. Expect beauty, music, laughs, tears and a lot of love.
My girlfriend this morning was on Sabina’s myspace page and saw the song she posted before she died. Sabina left all of us a final message. Here are the lyrics:
“I’m a soldier in the world
But we’ll leave it all someday
Whats the use in trying to hide
Where we came from anyway?
We are born to this world
Out on loan from the beyond
When it’s time to return
You wont be looking in the mirrorFuture primitive
The ones you left behind
Are still with you my dear
The life of our dirt
We are here and we’re gone
It’s our work that marches onWell we cross the river once
And we’ll do it once again
The valley it will open
And the mountains fall to their knees
Take the girl from the parents
And leave the rest behind
What you wanted was your life
Well you’ll get something moreFuture primitive
The ones you left behind
Are still with you my dear
The life of our dirt
We are here and we’re gone
It’s our work that marches on.”“Future Primitive” from Papercuts
The memorial event is this Thursday, from 3 til 8:30 at Liberty Lands Park.
